The Schindelhauer Hektor is not only fast on the racetrack
From Crit to Concrete Jungle
Berlin-based premium brand Schindelhauer can legitimately be called one of the major pioneers and trailblazers in the success story of Gates Carbon Drive. Founded in 2009, Schindelhauer placed its bets on belt technology right from the start, which at the time was an absolute novelty and still largely unknown in the bicycle industry. Schindelhauer bikes stand out with a straightforward, minimalistic design, a classic, timeless shape and color scheme with classic elements, and high-quality components. A low weight, a sporty attitude and a good usability for everyday riding are just as much part of the brand's DNA as the distinctive look, an agile handling and a well thought-out functionality.
Schindelhauer is also very active in singlespeed cycling and, together with the Gates brand, sponsors an exceptionally successful racing team, which is - of course - called Team Schindelhauer Gates. The team's riders are by now regulars on the winners' podiums of national and international races. Top performances include podium finishes at the Last Woman Standing bike race, German Fixed Crit Series, Montecatini Terme - Italian Fixed Cup and the Bike Race World Championships, as well as numerous other top 10 finishes, such as at the Red Hook Crit Brooklyn. The machine on which the team's athletes ride from success to success is the Schindelhauer Hektor, of which the manufacturer has released the 3rd generation this year.
For Hektor, velodrome and criterium are parade disciplines. First presented in 2014 at the Berlin Bike Show, the bike features aggressive geometry, narrow pedal width typical of track bikes and a high bottom bracket for maximum lean in corners, known as crit lean. The Hektor owes its sporty riding dynamics and efficiency in part to the high stiffness of its lightweight frame, which is based on a triple-butted aero tubeset. Other ingredients to its success are its sophisticated, optimized geometry, as well as the direct power transmission through a perfectly tuned Gates belt drive.
Hektor became known as the only genuine track bike with Gates Carbon Drive. In addition to that racing machine, however, Schindelhauer is now placing the Hektor in a variant for urban and everyday use and thus intends to appeal to riders who desire the special sportiness and agility of the Hektor, as well as its iconic design, beyond the racetrack. The Hektor is therefore now available for the first time in two variants and as a complete bike. Either the classic fixed gear setup or optionally with brakes and freewheel suitable for everyday use. An optional cable routing running through the top tube offers the opportunity for discrete integration without scaring away the purists.
Hektor is available either with a default setup, or it can be built individually according to customer preferences. Both variants of Hektor, fixed or with brakes and freewheel, are each available in graphite black and garnet red. Frame sizes to choose from are S (53), M (56), L (59) and XL (62). Schindelhauer Urban Pedals with matching pedal straps are available as an option. Schindelhauer also offers the option of an individual configuration for other mounted parts, components of the light system or the drive ratio. Both versions of Hektor are available and can be ordered from Schindelhauer directly or through Schindelhauer dealers. In the standard version, the Fixed variant costs € 1,695, the freewheel version € 1,795.
